He is a huge influence on why I'm currently undergoing the process to rework the ENTIRE way I edgeguard spacies. Sung's recovery also blows through my edgeguarding 90% of the time. I knew we would play a slow paced set where we would both have to play pretty conservatively. They were very serious friendlies so I knew somewhat to expect going into the set. The last time I played him was at Genesis 3 in friendlies after the tournament. Sung's kind of a strange one to play against. And I lost 2-0, although it was a pretty close a 2-0 is a 2-0. I hope that soon I will be able to catch up to him and beat him more. Either way Griffin out played me again, it's frustrating to lose to him. I know SSBM tutorials has a 20XX video where they talk about using stuff that could help me practice it. I also want to practice punishing Sheik's Downsmash and forward tilt more. So that's probably one of things I definitely have to work on. I always knew I jabbed a decent amount but man maybe it's because he grabbed all of them but it felt more than usual at SSS. What didn't work out so well was I was just jabbing his shield a lot that day. To not fall for Sheik recovering really high above and to tinker with the new stall he does as an edgeguard. My goal for this one was to not fall down with down air as much to get so easily punished. It's a great feeling the first time you make it out of pools and your pool certainly wasn't easy so great job!Ĭaptain Faceroll: I got to play Griffin at the collegiate coliseum two weeks ago where he beat me 3-2 in a relatively close set. Frog Venom congrats again on making it out of pools for the first time. Fish I know you live far away but it was cool to play with you even the little bit that we got to play. Fish I hadn't seen you in forever and it was good to see you again. Most likely due to playing extended friendlies with Frog Venom and Fish. Top 32 I felt much more comfortable moving. The answer is probably no but it's something I'm going to fiddle with next practice session. I need to check if sometimes upsmashing fox/falco at certain percents would be more optimal than just regrabbing them in a chaingrab. This probably isn't very good but it brought up a good note that I need to try out later. I think when I get nervous I sometimes just take the damage and move on with it. I was certainly getting pretty lazy for some of my punishes especially off throws. So that sums up pools, I think I played decentish during these two sets. I learned a lot from it though, so GG's Dayge if you ever read this. Beating Dayge was my ticket out of pools. It was still close but I was a lot more comfortable in the latter half of our set. I also had a better idea of when he wanted to come in with an approach. Anyways game 3 I realized how Dayge's shield pressure was still very underdeveloped and he did a lot of early dair's which while not being able to punish amazingly I was competent enough to make sure that I got out of the situation a lot better. I'm probably going to get hit quite a few times trying to learn this but it would probably help out my game a lot. I'm pretty good at getting up B/nair out of shield but those don't yield me nearly the same reward as a grab would. I think I realized that I need to start paying more attention to how the shield pressure hits me to see when I can shield grab. Thanks to this set + playing Squid and Sung today. I think playing Squid a lot lately made me respect a lot of shield pressure a little to much. Mid way through game 2 I actually was pretty worried about losing. Dayge told me not to be scared of him and almost 2-0'd me solidly. I won 2-0ĭayge: Holy moly I was very close to losing this set. Either way GG's to him, he was a strong first opponent and it definitely threw me for a loop. I think I need to make a more active effort to warm up an hour or so before my pool starts. I think coming into the tournament late made me pretty lazy going into the first few sets. I'm probably going to recheck if I do that a lot vs Griffin or something.
YVMS: He fair'd every single bad full hop down air I did. For specific comments and notes I had for each of them. My bracket today was Sheik (YVMS) Falco (Dayge) Sheik (Captain Faceroll) Falco (Sung475) Puff (Dendy Pretendy) and Falco (Squid). Once I started playing I felt like I had a pretty good grasp on focusing on the game. Thankfully I only felt like that during the preparation part of the tournament. But it felt like I had added expectations on top of myself. I know it's somewhat silly to worry about some rank I was given. It was my first time going to a tournament after becoming ranked.
